Matangi
Supreme Winner of the 2025 Outstanding New Zealand Food Producer Awards and the 2026 East Coast Ballance Farm Environment Award, Matangi Prime Meat Ltd is a boutique producer of premium grass-fed Angus beef and chicory-finished lamb. Their small-batch, seasonal products are raised on two Tuki Tuki Valley, Hawke’s Bay farms and delivered fresh to discerning clients and selected chefs throughout New Zealand from October through to August.
At Matangi, exceptional eating quality begins with careful breeding selection, with a strong focus on intramuscular fat and marbling. Their Angus cattle are 100% grass-fed and naturally raised in a low-stress environment for 24–32 months to achieve depth of flavour and tenderness. Matangi lamb is also entirely grass-fed, GMO-free, and raised without antibiotics, before being finished on nutrient-rich chicory to naturally enhance flavour and Omega-3 content.
Matangi Angus beef is aged on the bone for up to three weeks before being prepared to order by their in-house butchery team. They also offer customised dry-ageing for up to 100 days. In the 2025/26 season, 80% of our cattle achieved an independently graded marble score of 4 or higher.
